In my hometown newspaper, The Middletown Journal reads an very interesting article that I believe coreelates to the course very well. The reason why I chose this particular article is because it reminded me of the class we had last wedsday where much discussion and personal opinions were revealed. Our discussion was about the past election and about issue 7905 and 7906 which is An ordinance that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity (transgender protections) and HIV status and other factors. The article is relates because "Defense Secretary Robert Gates is encouraging Congress to act before year's end to repeal the ban on gays serving openly in the military. It's a position shared by his boss, the president." Defense Secretary Robert Gates is encouraging Congress to act before year's end to repeal the ban on gays serving openly in the military. It's a position shared by his boss, the president. Gen. James Amos says "This is not a social thing. This is combat effectiveness," which is interesting because a person's sexual orientation does not means he or she is not worthy enough to go into battle for our country. This notion also embarks gender roles that we often see in today's society. We socialized our country to believe that females cannot do some of the same things that men do. Just because a person does something different in the bedrooom than the "norm" does not necesarily means he/shecannot do their job especially at war, becaue if a person is at wwar I believe they will be all about business because their life is ont he line.
