For this blog assignment, I chose a political cartoon that reflects the polarization of our two main political parties. In the cartoon, the idea of “compromise” is drawn with a wagon being pulled two different directions, one way by a donkey, the traditional symbol of the Democratic party, and pulled the opposite direction by an elephant, the symbol for the Republican party. In the bed of the wagon is the White House, obviously making no progress, either way. I thought this cartoon was important to our class because it shows how the divide between political values in our government impedes progress on issues that are important to many people. Drawn on 11/5/2010, a few days after the elections, the American public is once again subjected to the clashing ideals of Washington D.C. We usually think of an election as a rebirth in our political structure, where candidates can be replaced, or kept, almost improving our country. But again, we have a divided central power that is going to be at a stand-still until millions of dollars are spent on the next election promising everyone change, that is never going to happen unless we take steps to reconstruct or political system.

Hey good post, I like your evaluation of the political cartoon. Today's Republican and Democratic parties are so polarized and far to the side of their political spectrum. I think the cartoon shows this also, as each party is moving away from the center and away from compromise, especially in the white house. You are right about the recent elections dividing the country, once again, instead of a rebirth like we saw in 2008. Now that the Republicans have regained control, it will cause headaches and gridlock for President Obama's agenda.
