75 percent. Thats the percent of Americans who think that things are going bad for our country. That number, which is alarmingly high, is the highest it has ever been since the poll originated in the 1970's. Of those 75%, an astounding 52% think that the biggest concern for our country is the falling economy. Getting more specific, the part of the economy, according to the survey, that Americans find most upseting is the rising unemployment rate. According to the article, even when the nation heads from a repulican candidate as perisent to a demcratic, or vise versa, the percentage hasn't been this high. Surprisingly to me, even with these high numbers, most people agreed that things were getting better, or were happy with their personal lives. I feel like I can personally vouch for how hard the economy is hurting. I have to live with the reality that both my parents, even working at the same place for over 20 years each, are both at jeopardy to lose their jobs. My dad's factory is continually laying people off, and had has hours fluctuate weekly for over a year now. My mom's bank seems to be in jeopardy of being sold to another company each week, making her job security at question as well. Even for me, finding a simple part time job for last summer was a struggle.

ReplyDeleteI found this article interesting also. I think most of the problem is that most of what President Obama has done is good and helpful, but we won't see the outcome till much later. For example health care changes won't take effect for a while. Last I heard the unemployment rate was either staying constant or falling but regardless President Obama has not created enough new jobs for Americans which is why 75 percent of Americans think things are bad at the moment. I also know what ya mean about feeling the hurt with worrying parents. My dad works at Chrysler and when they got the government "bail out" money they restructured and cut a lot of jobs. For a while he wasn't sure if he was losing his job or not but thankfully he did not.
ReplyDeleteI believe this very interesting as well. I know that economy is not doing well but I dont think its fair to blame Obama for not creating jobs. Its not something that just happens over night, its takes time and planning and Obama has not had enough time yet to do so. I mean I can't even say that he will do better in the future but I know he hasn't had enough time yet. You would really have to do some reseacrh and see what his plans are and how he is executing them in order to say if he is or isn't doing enough to produce new jobs. I agree its hard to find part time work as a college student who only has a summer to work, but I dont agree thats its so hard that all these people who are "unemployed" should not have a job. I believe a lot of people do not try as hard as they should to find a job, and many times when people do find a job they put in a half ass effort because its just a job they view as a stepping stone to their next job and don't truly value their current job. Overall, I believe people in general want more than they work for, so many people remained "unemployed" because if they take some jobs that are available they feel they will be "underemployed" and don't want to be viewed negatively because of it.
